Privacy policy

The short, no-nonsense version: we only collect what you hand us through our contact form, we use it purely to reply to you, and we never sell it to anyone. The full details are below.

Who we are

Otterly Good Ltd (“OtterlyGood”, “we”, “us”) is a software development studio based in Manchester, United Kingdom. We are the data controller responsible for the personal data described in this policy.

  • Registered office: Apartment 802 6 Rolling Street, Salford, England, M5 4RE
  • Company number: 15112970
  • Email: hello@otterlygood.com

What personal data we collect

We keep data collection to a minimum and only ask for what we genuinely need. When you use our contact form, we collect:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your budget range (optional)
  • The message you send us

Like most websites, our hosting provider also automatically records standard technical information (such as your IP address and browser type) in server logs. This helps keep the site secure and running smoothly, and we don't use it to identify you.

Why we use your data, and our lawful basis

We use the information from the contact form for one thing: to read your enquiry and reply to you. We don't use it for marketing, and we don't build profiles on you. Under UK GDPR, our lawful bases are:

  • Taking steps at your request before entering into a contract: you've contacted us about a potential project.
  • Legitimate interests: responding to enquiries and running our business. We've weighed this against your rights and don't think it's intrusive, because you chose to get in touch.

Who we share your data with

We don't sell your data, and we don't share it with third parties for their own marketing. We do rely on a couple of trusted service providers to run the site:

  • Email: we use Google Workspace (Gmail) to receive and store enquiry emails. See Google's privacy policy.
  • Hosting: our website hosting provider stores the site and keeps the server logs mentioned above.

These providers act on our instructions and are bound by their own data protection obligations. We may also disclose data if the law requires us to.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry emails for as long as we need them to deal with your message, plus a reasonable period afterwards in case you come back to us, up to a maximum of 24 months from your last contact. If we go on to work together, your information becomes part of our client records and is kept under that separate arrangement. After that, we delete it.

Cookies

Our website doesn't use tracking, advertising, or analytics cookies. We're not watching what you do here. Our hosting infrastructure may set essential cookies needed for the site to work and stay secure. If we ever add analytics, we'll update this policy and ask for your consent first.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct anything that's wrong
  • Ask us to delete your data
  • Ask us to restrict or object to how we use it
  • Ask for a copy of your data in a portable format

To exercise any of these, just email us at hello@otterlygood.com. We'll respond within one month. It's free, unless your request is clearly unfounded or excessive.

Complaints

If you're not happy with how we've handled your data, please get in touch. We'd genuinely like the chance to put things right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll change the “last updated” date at the top of the page. If the changes are significant, we'll make that clearer.
