Overview
Linggo set out to make learning Mandarin feel less like homework and more like play. We built a mobile app that walks users from their first 你好 to confident, everyday conversation — bite-sized lessons, daily streaks, achievements to chase, and a shop full of rewards for staying the course. Both Traditional and Simplified Chinese, all in one place.
Short, sharp, and frankly fun
Every lesson is a few minutes long, so daily practice fits between the kettle boiling and the bus arriving. Rack up streaks, unlock achievements, and spend your earnings on prizes in the shop — Mandarin has never felt this rewarding.
The Challenge
Most language apps demand a steady connection and a lot of patience. Linggo needed to feel quick, generous, and rewarding — and it had to work on the train, on a flight, or anywhere else the Wi-Fi gives up. Cramming a full Mandarin curriculum (basic to advanced, Traditional and Simplified) into a phone-friendly experience was no small ask.
The Solution
We designed short, snappy lessons that progress from basic phrases to advanced grammar without ever feeling like a textbook. Streaks, achievements, and a shop of unlockable prizes keep users coming back daily. The whole thing runs offline by default — lessons sync when you reconnect, so a flight in flight-mode is the perfect chance to brush up your tones.
